Footprint farm
Footprint Farm is and urban farm in San Diego that grows local produce and educates the next generation through sustainable farming practices.
About the Farm
Footprint Farm was founded in 2025 by farm owner Kristin Kvernland better known as KK. KK has a background in urban agriculture and youth education and has worked with various agricultural projects and farms throughout San Diego city and county. Creating her own farm space has been a long held dream of KK's and she is very grateful for her partnerships with Foodshed Cooperative, Southeast Community Church and the Growing Equity Initiative at UCSD. The name Footprint was inspired by her two daughters who love to run barefoot wherever they go, even in their goat pen (!). The name is also a reference to her passion for the planet and the role climate smart farming can play in helping to reduce everyone’s environmental “footprint” on this earth. Kristin farms without the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, maximizing natural ways of farming like application of compost, crop rotation and interplanting as well as the use of beneficial insects and plants to deter pests. She hopes to feed the community healthy, sustainably raised food and educate young people on the benefits of farming in this way.

Community Partners
Footprint Farm would not be possible without the generous support from the following partners:
Foodshed Cooperative
Foodshed is a farmer- and worker-owned, cooperatively-run distribution and resource hub dedicated to connecting San Diego’s farmers and eaters to forge a viable local food system. Foodshed is committed to fueling social change, creating sustainable agricultural livelihoods and fostering environmental regeneration. They source from 60 local farms to distribute free, reduced-cost, and retail fruit and vegetable to our neighbors across San Diego.
Footprint Farm is a proud member owner of Foodshed Cooperative and we currently sells 100% of our product to Foodshed.
South East Community Church
South East Community Church generously lease's land to Footprint Farm. The congregation is very supportive of Footprint's work and collaborates with KK (Farm owner) on a farm based health ministry. The Farm would not be possible without this partnership.
The Growing Equity Initiative
Growing Equity is an initiative of the UCSD Center for Community Health. They aim to promote community food sovereignty and health equity through urban agriculture. In 2025 they awarded a total of $270,000 to urban farmers in San Diego County. Footprint Farm was one of these awardees and the Farm would not be where it is now without this support!
